Time for another round of Name That Fish…everybody’s favorite semi-pointless game in which you can win absolutely nothing for correctly identifying the fish in the photo above!! Yeehaaaw!
So, got any ideas what this guy is? A few hints: I caught the fish on a shallow reef in Hawaii and, according to the guide books, this is about as big as they get. Still stumped? Part of his name is a major holiday….

Okay, so here’s a special (and slightly creepy) edition of our Name that Fish Contest in which you can actually win something. Yep, thanks to our friends at Northwest Wild Country Radio and Wiley X, we’ve got some bad-ass Wiley X sunglasses for whoever can properly I.D. all the critters from which these eyeballs were pried.

Okay, so here’s another round of Name that Fish! for all you budding fish heads out there. With this guy, I’m going to hold off on the clues other than there may just be a bit of trick photography involved here. No, the pic hasn’t been altered with PhotoShop, but let’s just say the camera angle may make this guy look a little different than normal…

Okay, so I’m the latest finned critter in JD’s Name that Fish Contest, which he does on a semi-regular basis here. See if you can figure out who I am. But first, please allow me to introduce myself. I’m a man of wealth and taste…uh..sorry about that one. Got a little carried away there. What? is it against the law for a fish to like the Stones? So sue me!
Anyway, you’ve probably met me before but didn’t know it…perhaps in some sort of processed fishwich at a fast food joint. Or maybe in a fish taco or fish stick. Yep, I’m yummy, flaky and mild..so they say, anyway (I’ve never partaken in the forbidden ritual).
I’m not considered much of a gamefish here on the West Coast, though my cousin’s got some fans in Europe and Norway. I normally spend most of my time in deep water, though I can be caught near shore at times.
Who am I?? And “Fillet-O-Fish” isn’t an answer!

Here’s the latest installment of our Name that Fish Contest. Now, before you answer, you have to ask yourselves…is this bizarre specimen found near Southampton, NY by budding marine biologist Mike Riehl a rarely-seen denizen of the deep? Or perhaps a previously undiscovered species (“Riehl’s Ratfish”)?
