california salmon season 2010

Just a quick update for all you salmon anglers wondering about the status of the inland salmon seasons for California’s Central Valley (Sacramento, Feather & American rivers): As you recall, the state Fish & Game Commission decided to delay its vote until May 5, which of course, has come and gone and we still don’t have a decision.

Apparently, the commission didn’t have a quorum (the minimum number of members necessary to conduct the business of the group) yesterday and had to once again put off the decision. In other words, we couldn’t get 3 of the 5 commissioners together on a call to make the final vote.

According to the Commission office, the next meeting is tentatively scheduled for May 20. In the meantime, business who rely upon the salmon and anglers who live for them have to wait before making any summer plans.

As Tom Petty once sang…”The waaaaaiting is the hardest part” will ring true for at least another week plus…

Will there be salmon fishing this year on the Sacramento River??

Just a quick note on the status of salmon fishing for the 2010 season for the Sacramento, Feather and American rivers…the California Fish & Game Commission, which was supposed to make a decision at their meeting yesterday decided to punt until May.

I couldn’t get the exact reasoning when I called their office yesterday…but let’s just hope they postponed so they can take a look at all sides of the issue here. As always, we’ll report back when something new breaks in this story…

The Pacific Fisheries Management Council, at it’s Sacramento meeting this week, has announced three options for the California recreational salmon season in 2010. They range from a full-blown season to none at all. Keep in mind, these are the options and the National Marine Fisheries Service gets the last say on the matter in April.
