Mmmm...fish stix!
This round of our Name that Fish Contest comes from one cold and windy day in Kodiak Alaska, when Ron and I did a little surf casting along the shores of Anton Larson Bay. This denizen of the deep bit a swimbait fought like, well, a wet gym sock.
Can you name it? Hint: they make great fish & chips!

What the????
Okay, here’s an interesting one for the ol’ Name that Fish game: I caught this odd fella on the Buskin River in Kodiak, AK on a pink Mepps. From downstream, buddy Ron asked me what I had on (there were silvers, reds, pinks and dollies all in the same hole) and my response was…
“It’s…a…um…well…holy crap, I have no clue…” What really threw me off are all the spots below the lateral line. After taking a close look at this thing, I’m pretty sure I have an idea what it is (hint: think: “hybrid”). But before I reveal my thoughts, go ahead and give us your best guesses in the comments section below…

I.D. this big boy!
So, I’m guessing this is kinda what the end result of a one-night spawn between a crappie, a bass and a beach ball might look like. This particular specimen was hooked on a shrimp cast by Stan Nabozny in Matagorda Bay, Texas. The fish was released is actually a pending
lGFA All-Tackle Length record. Do you know what it is??

This wild looking critter taken in Malaysia has been spotted in many waters of the US and, due to the fact that it’s widely adaptable and has a sweet tooth (teeth) for native fishes, several states have gone to great lengths to eradicate these unwelcome visitors.
This is really a pretty easy one…use the comments section below and “Name that Fish.”

Got any ideas who this little fella is??
So, this round of our
Name that Fish Contest has a little twist to it…be the first to get this one right and you’ll earn yourself a nifty little prize: A
Snap Shot Ruler fish measuring device!
So, some hints: this little dude is a popular game and food fish in its native lands, where the locals use tiny custom rods to jig them up and then they get marinated and fried (the fish, not the anglers!). Without giving too much away, they were introduced as an experimental forage fish in the U.S. back in the 50′s…and, ultimately, turned out to have a negative impact on native species (duh!).
I am looking for it’s full name and you’re going to have to be very specific. Using the comments section below, give us your answer. Good luck!

See if you ca get this one! Our featured mystery species in this round of
Name that Fish is endemic to the northern and eastern Edwards Plateau. It’s also the State Fish in…well…I can’t tell ya that! Unlike some of his cousins, this little fella prefers moving water to the still stuff.
Think you know what this species is? Use the comments section below to give us your answer.

Honestly, does it really matter what you're catching when you're standing in 80 degree water in Hawaii??
This round of Name that Fish comes from the “wishing I was tropical surf fishin’” files…I caught this scrappy guy (which is a small specimen…this species can get much larger) while tossing a white Zoom Super Fluke off the beach at super-gorgeous Hanalei Bay near Princeville, Kauai one morning.
Can you properly identify both the common name…AND…the Hawaiian name of this fish? Use the comments section to give us your answer.
