There aren’t many places I’d rather be than than in a drift boat on some remote steelie stream in British Columbia…Happy Monday dreamin!

Nothing like a nice batch of steelie leaders...that somebody else tied for you!
Though it’s a necessary part of the job, I’ve never been a huge fan of having to tie up a bunch of steelhead leaders before a trip. Maybe it’s because I’m all thumbs…or perhaps it’s the fact that they ol’ eyes just aren’t what they used to be. Whatever the issue, it just always seems like it takes forever.
So, when Fred “The World’s fastest leader tier” Contaoi offered to tie some leaders for me on the way to lunch, I quickly tossed a pack of hooks and some leader into his oversized mitts and let him go to town. The big man worked his magic and between driving to and from lunch, I had a 52-pack of Owner Mosquitos ready to roll…all hanging from the passenger’s side sun shade.
Several day’s worth of leaders all ready to go…a wonderful sight indeed. Thanks, Big Fred!

Somewhere off the coast of Baja
So, it’s pretty much going to rain all this week all down the West Coast. In the long run, all this wet stuff is a great thing for those of us in Nor Cal anyway. But, in the short term, everything’s gonna be punched out for awhile. So, as I sit here and watch the rain, I ask the question…where would you rather be right now?? Check out the pix and then answer the poll at the bottom…

In a word: AWESOME!
California’s Eastern Sierras are spectacular and one of the coolest places of them all is the Hot Creek Canyon above its confluence with the Ownes River.
Can’t you just picture yourself down there on the edge of the creek, flipping a size 18 midge on a dry line to a big brown hanging under the opposite bank? Damn, another morning of work down the drain!

Buzz's Workshop!
Hre’s a little glimpse into a world not many of us ever get a chance to see…This is Buzz Ramsey’s work bench where he tunes, tweaks, trashes and tinkers on lures for Yakima Bait.
While developing the new Hawg Nose Flatfish, he spent countless hours here, trying to perfect the lure. “This photo includes many of the handmade versions of the Hawg Nose FlatFish 5.5 I made up during the development of this product,” says Ramsey. “As you can tell, it took more than a little R&D to make it meet our criteria of swimming in water speeds up to 5MPH; to develop a random skip-beat (hunting) action at 2-to-2-1/2 MPH and maintain that strike producing action all the way to 5MPH.”

Can you hear me now...no I can't!
No bars on the cell phone out here! And the only human sound is the clicking of a drag as yet another big rainbow or dolly goes screaming downstream towards the lake. Nice!
This pic was shot on an awesome trip K-Dawg and I did a few years back. If you really want to screw up your productivity at work today, check out the video of the trip

Ahhhhhhhh!
So, I’m thinking that the glowing green of a steelhead stream is way better for one’s eyes (and sanity) than the glare of a computer terminal. So, in an effort to make the rest of the work week more productive, I motion to declare today a National Holiday…Steelhead Day…and that anyone who knows what a Slinky, Oakie Drifter or Hot Shot is, gets the day off. Who’s with me??
