When you get right down to it, is there anything cooler than having a chrome Chinook pump your rod on a crisp fall morning?
Here’s a beautiful Chinook one of my clients caught this morning on the Sacramento River. Each one of these amazing creatures is a gift…we admired this bright hen for several minutes before putting her in the box. After our Chinook collapse a few years back, I’ll never take one for grated again…
Happy Fall everyone!

Nice fish, JD. I agree that we should never take a chinook for granted. Each one is like a gift, and after staring at the lifeless wiggle of a rod tip for hours while trolling the lower Sac, it still always amazes me when the rod goes down hard and springs to life. They are amazing fish that have defied some long odds, and they deserve to be appreciated.
Absolutely!!
Seriously! to pass the nets, go up class 4 & 5 rapids, make it past all the bait and plugs put infront of them along the 150+ mile journey- and I didn’t even mention life as a smolt and making it to the sea… They have my full respect and appreciation.
Exactly, Erik!
That fish is even brighter than that hog of a buck you put me on last week! Gotta get back out…
Wow – what a beautiful fish. JD, can you recommend a launch ramp that would be safe, that is located lower on the river than Discovery Park. The days off are few and far between so I don’t want to spend time looking for a launch ramp.
Thanks for the great website,
Robert
Well, Robert…define “safe.” Miller Park just below 80 anf Garcia Bend in the Pocket Area are lower in the river but there is often glass in the parking lots at those two spots…Disco is far safer.
That fish did not come out of the barge hole. Bright Fish!!!!!
Glenn, you’re right about that! Down low is where I go…
