Lunker Alert: A 30-lb. Irish Pike!

My English uncle often talks about making fishing trips to Ireland, camping in a VW van for a week or two and fishing in miserable weather. Typically, his hours spent to inches of fish caught ratio is woefully low…but, apparently, he’s been fishing in the wrong spot!

Just take a look at the photo our new Irish correspondent, Karol O’Donovan, just sent of his buddy with a massive, 30-pound pike from the Emerald Isle!

“My friend has been pike fishing for the last 25-30 years with his personal best 24 pounds — up til last week,” he says. “This henfish took a trolled dead bait fished at a dept of 9 feet and he battled it for nearly 40 minutes before they got her in the net. Pike of this size are very few and far between in Ireland now days but its great to see there are still some around!”

That’s one heck of a nice fish and, oh by the way, Karol…don’t feel too bad. Thirty pounders don’t exactly grow on trees over here in the states, either!
