I think I'm in love....
So, anybody else got King fever? We’re still about a month away from the major salmon opener here in The Central Valley and I’ve got it baaaad.
I’ve been doing my annual spring Chinook tagging project lately and we’ve been catching some beautiful chromers. You’d think that would help cure the jones but it’s only making it worse. I’m not sure what it is about kings, but damn do they get under your skin and make you crazy! I need another bump!

JD –
The flows may be fine on the Feather now, but what’s your prediction for the fall? Look at the AR…they’re dumping 4,000 cfs down right now. Based on the low rainfall from this past winter, do you think we will have enough left come Sept/Oct to have decent flows for the fall run? Myself, I am concerned.
D, I too share your concern. On the flip side, we actually have pretty decent water storage at the moment. If I had to guess, however, com fall they won’t err on the side of fish!
Damn JD…you were supposed to say something inspiring and tell me not to worry…
They opened the spillway to dump nearly 6,000cfs from the lakes surface where the water is over 70 degrees??? Water coming off the bottom of the lake would be in the 50′s. What a genious idea. I wonder if those Springers will leave the Feather system and head north on the Sacramento River to the 60 degree water? Or just scoot into the Yuba…what’s the water temp there?
Yea, it’s crazy. Feather just below the Yuba was 72 degrees when I wad there Thursday. Yuba is 58. Hope all those fish make a right turn & survive!
What? DWR boyz couldn’t do without ya? Yeah, that’s hilarious!
I’ll bet you’re off the water early today. Tons of salad and silt going downriver!
Lot’s of kings and other fish moving up into town since DWR turned the water up!
28 inch Steelie caught from Bedrock Park swimming hole this week.
Stay cool in the heat. I’m off to the high lakes! CB
wieght, get it!?
wow! how sweet is that! can’t weight for those big bucks!
sept. on the sac.!
More excited for kings than anyone could imagine. Think I might have to head out towards the klamath/trinity this weekend….!
What a beauty……….
We are getting our thrill off of Santa Cruz. Put three nice 18 pounders in the box yesterday. They are feeding heavily on krill and they are like salmon on meth! To say they are hot would be an understatement.
Nice chrome JD! Is that from this season? Do you think the flows will be high enough on the Feather this summer to bring the fish up?
Flows on the Feather, as I sit here on it in Thurs morning is up to 5400 cfs. Unfortunately, we have 71-degree water. :(
You think your JONESIN!!! at least your getting to go get a wiggle on your rod!!!
I’m sittin over here insanely jealous
J
I have the fever!
Thanks for fu*#@ng up my morning…. Thats a beautiful fish!!! Can’t wait to get out there.
Need any help?
where did you caught that nice chorme salmon at
I’m doing a tagging project on the Feather River. It will open to the public to salmon July 16.
OMG you lucky bastard! I’m jonesing sooooo bad. With chromers like the one your holding already in the system this post isn’t helping. I saw a fly guy hook a springer while shad fishing on the Sac a couple weeks back (it whooped his butt with the light fly gear in heavy current). It sucked the life right out of my shad fishing that day. I would have been perfectly happy with throwing my shad gear overboard and dropping a couple spinners behind the boat!
Yea me too! Caught my first salmon ever last year and in big part thanks to your website. Thanks for tips and I can’t wait to get out there
As excited as is possible!
