Brad's Rad Bad Mad Steelie takes the top prize this month!
This round of the Hawg of the Month Contest featured some pretty heavy hitters, including a giant largemouth, a massive rainbow and two 20-plus pound steelies. Well, with over 29% of the vote, Brad’s Mad Steelie took top honors. A very deserving fish!
There’s a lesson to be learned here, though. While Jimmy’s big steelie was about the same size as Brads, the photo didn’t do it any favors in the eyes of the voters. The pic of Brad and his winning fish was well composed and and really made the steelie look good. So, all you aspiring Hawg of the Month winners, keep that in mind!
Maybe I’ll do a little “how to take better fish pix” post in the future. Until then, congrats to Brad, who wins a nice bit of Pautzke’s headgear and will advance to the Hawg Bowl Playoffs later this year, where he’ll have a shot to win a guided fishing trip for two with Bill “Swanny” Swann of Swanny’s Fishing.
To see all the final stats, read on…
As you can see, Brad’s was popular along the West Coast though Jimmy’s got a buddy somewhere off the coast of Africa and Frank’s got a fan in Germany.

Surprised JD is giving props to this pic…Jimmy’s pose was much more fish friendly.
I agree with you mike, he looks like he’s five feet away from the fish. shit we should all hold out our 12 lb steelie to win, bummer for the the little girl
With all due respect Jay, and my previous post nonwithstanding, not everyone can take a fish pic like Brad (being serious here). In my opinion, this pic doesn’t look obviously stiff armed and like JD said, the photo is very well composed. Just like in fishing, its all about the presentation, baby! Great fish pictures are actually pretty hard to come by and take experience and talent on both ends to come out well.
Brad’s one of the most talented fish holders I know. This talent runs deep in his bloodline as his twin brother, Pete, too can make an average steelhead look like the fish of a lifetime. I will be entering Pete for next months hawg of the month contest with yet another 20lb+ steelhead caught on the Smith River…….. This legendary first family of freakin hawgs is at it again!!!!
