Ok, I’ll admit that when I heard they were doing a movie of my favorite book, David James Duncan’s The River Why, my gut reaction was…well…WHY? Why take a brilliant piece of fiction and bastardize it by putting it onto the silver screen? It just seemed like a bad idea. But, the trailer actually makes it look like they may have done a respectable job of it…and, by the way, Gus’ girl Eddy (played by Amber Heard) may just be more smokin’ in the flick than in my imagination…not easy to do!
The film is currently being screened at Film Festivals across the U.S. No word yet on a major released date…

a GREAT film.

JD great info on the movie I cant wait! I am not good at reading, so I will be happy to see the flick. I am excited also to see the scene when Gus meets Eddy thats a classic! I hope they do that justice, I was concerned with the trailer.
they did a write-up about this movie in Outside Magazine over the summer. It sounded as though they paid close attention to respecting the book, as they knew that it was held very dear to a great many.
One of my all time favorites. Still read it about every other year. The scene where Gus sees Eddy for the first time is one of the funniest I’ve ever read.
