Around 10 years ago a well known Canadian, John Maynard came down for the the Salmon derby held on Monterey Bay and fished with several locals. He insisted on using plug cut hearing and didn’t catch a fish while most boats did well that day. I laughed at the set-up described in Zog’s article. I have mooched in the Monterey Bay for nearly 20 years and I never use more than 15 lb test on my main line and leaders. No beads, no sliding sinkers (banana only) and no problem with twist. Just use an anchovie (or Sardine) this year.
