With his massive Kitimat River steelie, Derrick Downey easily took top honors in the December Hawg of the Month contest (62.6% of the vote) and in so doing, secures the final spot for the upcoming HAWG of the YEAR battle, which begins Christmas night and runs through New Years.
Double D caught the mammoth steelie on fluff chuckkin’ gear — Moby ate a fly pattern called the…uh…”Pink Intruder” and took over 20 minutes to land. While the fish wasn’t weighed, it’s safe to say DD is a member of the 20-pound club. After the grip and grin, the big steelie swam off to, hopefully, breed a lot more of his kind.
