FishCraft SuperCat Raft

by JD on October 27, 2008

At first glance, FishCraft’s SuperCat tunnel hull raft looks like one sweet fluff-chucking rig, but could it be equally at home coated in roe slime or back-trolling plugs as it is a serving as a platform for fly fishing?

The fine folks at Fish Craft (aka The Riverman Boat Works), say that the raft is part cataraft and part driftboat, combining the best of both worlds. You get the comfort of a hard floor and enclosure of a drifter while also having the forgiving qualities of a raft.

Rollers!

by JD on October 18, 2008

It’s a sad commentary on the times that I even am posting this picture, but here’s my pal D-Hutch pulling plugs…when not one but 2 kings roll in the hole.

The way salmon fishing has been going in California lately, just seeing a couple fish jump is noteworthy…

Okay, now I’m really depressed!

Big Fred Jersey
Our man Big Fred Contaoi helped lead the Orange County Choppers Team to a strong 4th place finish in the PAA Corporate Cup in Florence, Alabama last week.

The event featured 42 teams picked from the cream of the crop of the FLW Tour and Bass Elite anglers, so Contaoi’s gang beat out some of the biggest names in the sport of bass fishing!

New Spawning Riffle American R

Beleaguered American River salmon and steelhead will have some nice new spawning beds to work with this fall and winter thanks to a new riffle built near Sailor Bar. The restoration work was a joint effort between The Bureau of Reclamation, The Water Forum and the County of Sacramento, installed fresh spawning riffles in the river near Sailor Bar back in October. The work was completed last week and is the first of several such projects slated for the river.

When Disaster Strikes!

by JD on October 17, 2008

JD & Raft

Here I am in some whitewater on the Trinity…a nanosecond before disaster struck. No, I didn’t flip the raft or anything. Worse! Check out the yellow circle. That rectangular item you see there, on its way out of the boat, is a box stuffed with Slinkies.

I watched it bob for just a moment and then down she went to the bottom of the falls. Eight dollars worth of materials and about $14,000 worth of my time…down the tube. Damn, I hate making Slinkies….

Nice work with the camera by trusty sidekick Reilly who snapped the moment of horror in action.
